In some cases, a tooth that is decayed or infected may be past the point of saving with dental restorations or other interventions. In such cases, we would recommend a tooth extraction. This will prevent any infection or decay from spreading to neighbouring teeth and remove any pain you might be in. In the long term, it will also help improve your overall well-being, making it easier to eat and chew once a replacement tooth has been placed.
Some patients may be in need of an extraction due to an impacted wisdom tooth. In these cases, our team at Arte Dental can safely remove the tooth. We’ll use local anaesthetic, so you’re pain-free throughout, and we can also offer sedation services for anyone feeling particularly nervous. Our team are highly experienced and skilled at this procedure, making Arte Dental the natural choice for tooth extraction in Birmingham.

Most teeth that need to be removed can be extracted with forceps. This is known as ‘simple’ extraction. During this procedure, we’ll use a local anaesthetic to make sure you’re comfortable and pain-free throughout.
We will then carefully and safely loosen the tooth and remove it using forceps. If needed, we’ll stitch up the empty pocket to help it heal. If you’re at all worried about this treatment, we can also arrange for sedation. This will put you into an awake, but dream-like state, leaving you completely relaxed.
In more complex cases, we may have to surgically remove your tooth. This is usually because the tooth needing extraction is under the gum line or has long, curved roots. During a surgical extraction, we’ll first place you under local anaesthetic, so you’re completely pain-free and comfortable.
We’ll then make an incision so that we can more easily remove the tooth. If necessary, we may then remove part of the bone and section off the tooth into smaller pieces, so that we can more easily remove it. Once this has been done, we’ll reposition the gum and place dissolvable stitches to ensure it heals well.
Wisdom teeth are molars that come in at the back of the mouth, usually during your late teens or twenties. Many patients do not notice their wisdom teeth and are lucky enough to be able to live happily with them.
In some cases, however, these molars can become impacted, meaning they are hidden below the gum line. This can cause irritation and a great deal of pain. At Arte Dental, we’re highly experienced at removing wisdom teeth and molars and can make sure you’re completely relaxed during treatment with the use of sedation.

In most cases of tooth extraction, one of the following may have occurred: severe tooth decay, a loose tooth due to gum disease, an infection or abscess, a broken tooth, an accident or oral trauma (often caused by a sports injury), or an impacted wisdom tooth.
We’ll always make sure you’re comfortable and pain-free with a local anaesthetic. We can also arrange for sedation treatment.
We’ll talk through your worries and nerves at your consultation, and we can help by recommending sedation during treatment. Sedation puts you into a super relaxed and comfortable state while leaving you awake and aware, and is a great way to help nervous patients receive the treatment they need.
We’ll recommend surgical extraction in more complex cases. This is usually a result of the tooth being impacted or below the gum line, or because the tooth in question has a long or curved root.
For both simple and surgical extractions, we would recommend taking the next day off, as rest can help you heal more quickly.
