Implant-retained dentures

If you’re living with multiple missing teeth or looking to upgrade your current set of dentures, implant-retained dentures could be the answer. Unlike traditional dentures, which rest on the gums and are held in place by a dental adhesive, implant-retained dentures are anchored to the mouth via implants.

This makes for a much more comfortable and secure experience and also helps to maintain a healthy jaw and support your natural facial structure. They are easier to take care of than traditional dentures, and also have the advantage of allowing you to eat a fuller diet. And because they don’t cover your palate, food even tastes better with implant-retained dentures.

Implant-retained bridges

Like traditional bridges, implant-retained bridges can be used to replace two or more teeth at once. Unlike traditional bridges, they are secured in place in the mouth via implants acting as the new root for the prosthetic teeth. This makes them much more stable and secure, far less likely to slip, and much more comfortable for the patient.

They also allow you to eat the full range of food, including crunchy, hard, and chewy food, without worrying about your dentures slipping or getting damaged. Compared to traditional bridges, implant-retained bridges provide a much more natural-looking finish and help support the natural structure of the face, so you appear younger.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the treatment take?

For both implant-retained bridges and implant-retained dentures, the treatment journey can take several months. This is partly due to the healing period that is needed between placing the implants and placing your personal prosthetic, whether it be dentures or a bridge.

Some patients may also need treatment before we start the implant process, for example, if there is any infection or gum disease present.

We’ll be able to determine all this and give you an accurate assessment of how long your treatment might take during your initial consultation.

Am I suitable for this treatment?

If you have multiple missing teeth or multiple teeth in need of extraction, you might be a good candidate for an implant-retained denture or an implant-retained bridge.

Can I get implant-retained dentures if I already have dentures?

If you’re using traditional dentures and are unhappy with them or would like an upgrade, then implant-retained dentures could be for you.

Can I replace my bridge with an implant-retained bridge?

We can replace your traditional bridge with an implant-retained bridge for a more secure and comfortable experience. We’ll first assess whether you’re suitable for the treatment and if any bone loss has occurred, in which case we may have to recommend a bone graft.

Will the treatment be painful?

During the placement of your implants, we’ll use anaesthetic so you don’t experience any pain or discomfort. We can also offer sedation, which will put you into an almost dream-like state while still being awake and aware.

Arte dental is the perfect practice. I have had a great experience from their wonderful front of house team, nurses and dentist. From my first consultation to completion of my treatment I have felt looked after by the entire team. This dental practise has been amazing. The quality of care is top notch and the service is amazing. The reception team are lovely , and Keeley is ever so helpful and kind. My dentist was Dr Ali and he’s been super great this whole time , his quality of work is phenomenal and you can tell he has had great experience in the dental field. The dental nurses are so sweet too and always do their best to make sure you feel welcomed.
