The root or nerve of a tooth can become infected due to a broken or cracked tooth or from an untreated cavity. This can become painful for the patient and also lead to further damage to the tooth. To treat the infection, prevent any further decay or damage and fully restore the tooth, we can perform a root canal treatment.
Our exceptional team are highly skilled when it comes to carrying out this treatment. We’ll make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable throughout so you can leave the practice with a healthier tooth and a happy smile.
Schedule a ConsultationOur skilled team are also able to perform root canal re-treatment in cases where the original treatment has unfortunately failed. Luckily, root canal failure isn’t that common and is normally caused by persistent bacteria. Because we have specialist endodontists on our team at Arte Dental, we won’t have to refer out of practice, and you’ll be able to receive this treatment in our beautifully calm, relaxing environment.
In rare cases, we may have to perform an apicectomy when infection has advanced and can’t be treated with a root canal alone. This is a microsurgical procedure during which our specialist endodontist surgically removes any infection from the root of the tooth. In more advanced cases, the infection may have also spread to the jawbone and caused a cyst – an apicectomy can be used in these situations too.
In some cases, a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment may darken and discolour. This doesn’t happen with every patient, but if it does, we can offer internal bleaching to return the tooth to its natural shade. The treatment usually takes a few appointments to be fully successful.
Dental trauma can cause tooth root resorption to occur, which is when the structure of the tooth begins to dissolve away, leading to the loss of the tooth. If diagnosed in time, our specialist endodontics team can treat the resorption and save the tooth in question.
At an appointment with one of our highly skilled team members, we’ll perform a thorough examination and be able to let you know if a root canal treatment is necessary.
At your appointment, we’ll numb the area being treated using a local anaesthetic. Then, we’ll make an opening in the crown of the tooth so that we can remove the infected and inflamed dental pulp in the pulp chamber and root canals. Once we’ve cleaned and disinfected the interior of the tooth, we’ll seal it back up with a rubber-type material.
In most cases, we’ll apply a crown so that the tooth is fully restored to function. Our crowns are beautifully crafted and designed for each individual patient, so they fit in perfectly with the rest of your teeth.
We strive to offer our patients the highest standards of Dental care and customer service. Watch what our lovely patients have been saying about us!
We perform root canal treatments to remove infection from the dental pulp inside the tooth. If left untreated, the infection will spread and likely lead to a tooth extraction. It could also threaten the health of the surrounding teeth.
In most cases, the dental pulp becomes infected and/or inflamed due to untreated decay, an injury or accident that causes a crack or chip in the tooth, or repeated dental procedures.
Very bad tooth pain/toothache, pain when chewing or biting, increased and prolonged sensitivity especially to hot or cold food and drinks, a darkened tooth, and swelling and tenderness in the gums are all symptoms of dental pulp infection. If you are experiencing any of these, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Most appointments last 30-90 minutes, depending on the severity of the infection. In some cases, we may have to treat the tooth over two appointments with a week or so in between them.
Modern techniques mean root canal treatments are no longer painful. We’ll use a local anaesthetic, so you’ll be pain-free throughout and can also provide sedation if needed. In most cases, you’ll feel less pain after the treatment, as the infection will be removed.
