Dental hygiene is front and centre at Arte Dental. Maintaining good dental hygiene is super important not only for long-term oral health goals but also for creating a dazzling smile. It’s also been linked to overall health issues such as diabetes and heart disease, so keeping plaque and decay away can help improve your general well-being, too.
Our hygiene team are skilled at spotting issues from a mile away and providing in-clinic and at-home treatments to help prevent any from occurring. We also offer airflow tooth polishing, the gold standard of professional teeth cleaning, designed to be used on even sensitive teeth and restorations.

This treatment is super gentle yet very effective and helps remove plaque and tartar build-up, as well as getting rid of superficial staining. Airflow tooth polishing can be used on sensitive teeth, as well as restorations and fixed braces.
Using just air, sodium bicarbonate and a controlled jet of water, the teeth are gently yet thoroughly cleaned. Plaque and tartar are removed, and any superficial staining can be removed too. Your teeth will be left looking brighter and polished.
We strive to offer our patients the highest standards of Dental care and customer service. Watch what our lovely patients have been saying about us!
We recommend you have a dental hygiene appointment at least once a year, but twice yearly is optimal. In cases where we are treating any gum disease or periodontal issues, we may recommend more frequent visits.
Our dental hygienists will be able to come up with a bespoke oral health plan for you, designed around your specific dental needs. In general, however, we recommend brushing the teeth for 2 minutes twice a day and flossing regularly.
We use Airflow® tooth polishing for our professional-level cleaning. This is a super gentle system that can be used on even sensitive teeth, restorations and fixed braces. Our skilled hygienists will make sure you’re comfortable throughout.
Plaque is a buildup of bacteria which forms a sticky, transparent film on the teeth. It continually builds up as a result of saliva, food, and any fluids we consume. This build-up can trap stains, leaving the teeth looking discoloured, but it can also lead to gum disease.
Tartar forms on the teeth when plaque hardens on the tooth surface. Some patients are simply more susceptible to tartar buildup, while others find it builds up faster as we age. Only a dental professional can fully remove tartar, but you can help prevent it from forming at home by brushing twice a day and flossing daily.
